Reverend Beal comes up with an idea to expand the school population, and the Brooks family is doing its part by providing a 13-year-old home. Tess has to give up hope, even if Aaron is unhappy about the island and hopes to return to his mother. Tess is growing significantly over the novel when she learns that things do not always go according to plan, but they still have the ability to drive. Each chapter begins with another saying that is used in the context of the story, the reader guess, retains its meaning. You feel a tremendous amount of hope when they read the story of Tess and Aaron.
